Sam Elliott Western Collection (Rough Riders / You Know My Name / The Desperate Trail)

Description

Rough Riders In 1898 the US government, led by Theodore Roosevelt (Tom Berenger) back when he was still a young, ambitious Naval Secretary, intervenes on the side of the Cuban rebels in their struggle against Spanish rule. Always ready for action, Roosevelt leaves the confines of the sidelines and forms a volunteer cavalry regiment which later became infamously known as the "Rough Riders." Roosevelt's regiment brings together volunteers from all corners of the nation to fight against a far superior adversary in one of the most rousing victories in American history. You Know My Name In six months, the population of Cromwell, Oklahoma, has climbed from 500 to 10,000. Boom times have come to the oil-rich town. So has a new breed of criminal. You Know My Name is the fact-based story of Bill Tilghman, a lawman and former partner of Wyatt Earp confronted by an emerging era when outlaws run whiskey instead of cattle and are likely to tote a tommy gun as carry a six-gun. An ideally cast Sam Elliott plays Tilghman, whose life takes on a newfangled wrinkle of its own. Tilghman makes a moving picture of his Old West exploits; and the success of that silent film, The Passing of the Oklahoma Outlaws, spreads his reputation like a brushfire. But that reputation may mean nothing to a thug (Arliss Howard) who hides behind a badge. Desperate Trail Amiable con man Jack Cooper is on a westbound stagecoach, headed for the next batch of suckers who will mistake him for an easy mark. Fiery Sarah O'Rourke rides the same coach, handcuffed to lawman Bill Speakes and headed for the hangman. In a few hours, all should reach their destinations. But the trail they travel takes an unexpected turn: Cooper and O'Rourke are soon off the stage and running for their lives. The law ends and the chase begins in a very alive tale of wanted-dead-or-alive fugitives (Linda Fiorentino and Craig Sheffer) pursued by a marshal (Sam Elliott) who's a law unto himself.

WARNER's SAM ELLIOTT WESTERN COLLECTION features Elliott in three of his best films.

SYNOPSES--

DESPERATE TRAIL-- After years of physical abuse, the daughter-in-law (Fiorentino) of Marshal Bill Speakes (Elliott) kills her husband. She's sentenced to hang but manages to escape with the aid of Jack Cooper (Sheffer). Marshal Speakes will do almost anything to bring her to justice and avenge his son's death.

ROUGH RIDERS-- Made-for-TV biopic about Teddy Roosevelt (Berenger) and the volunteer cavalrymen who in the Spanish-American War of 1898 charged up the heavily-defended San Juan Hill alongside him. Top-notch cast includes co-star Elliott as Capt. Bucky O'Neil.

YOU KNOW MY NAME-- TV movie about real life cowboy and pioneering film director Bill Tilghman (Elliott). An ex-buffalo hunter and deputy of Wyatt Earp, Tilghman is intent on producing realistic westerns, but faces opposition when he favors unknowns for his pictures rather than... Read more

Sam Elliott is one of my favorite actors. I could listen to his voice reading the New York City phone book and be enthralled. This boxed set contains three terrific movies featuring Elliott. The Rough Riders is a two disc mini-series that I especially liked. This set is well worth the money.

As a huge Sam Elliott fan, I have been waiting for a compilation of his work. This mini effort of Westerns is surely a great start.
With his rugged good looks ( No one wears a mustache like Sam), his swagger ( without being arrogant)and "that" voice....no matter what role he portrays, he's going to shine. I liked him very much in the original "Quick & the Dead", and as General Sam Houston. My personal favourite role, of course not a western, as Gar, in MASK with Cher. They had great chemistry on screen; so, of course, does his wife Katharine Ross ( but being female, I'd rather not see him with his wife).
I'd buy the compilation, if I didn't already have them singular.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Blink 182 and you like playing guitar, you need one of these., May 24, 2009

This review is from: Epiphone ES-333 Tom Delonge Signature Archtop Electric Guitar (Electronics)
I'm a big fan of Blink 182, and when I first saw Tom Delonge play this piece of art I started drooling and wanted one. I finally came across this guitar on amazon and saw the price and decided it was a good deal for a guitar like this. The guitar is very light, due to its semi-hollow body, which is nice. The design and color is beautiful. The sound is pretty impressive when hooked up to an amp with distortion on, and it sounds pretty good even when playing clean. If you like Blink 182 and want a fun guitar to play, you should get this guitar. Very beautiful and fun to play.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE, February 22, 2009
This review is from: Epiphone ES-333 Tom Delonge Signature Archtop Electric Guitar (Electronics)
Overview: I am a Huge Blink-182 fan and this guitar is awesome. Even if you are their biggest fan this guitar still sounds cool.

Ease of use: There is one knob, it can't get much easier!

Sound: There is one hum-buckle pickup which gets ride of all other sound leaving just the tone of the guitar. there is one knob on the guitar and that is the volume knob. The semi hollow body gives the guitar a more distorted sound naturally and if you listen to the song Rock Show by Blink-182 that is essentially what the guitar sounds like with its volume almost all the way up. With the volume down from 1-3 the distortion disappears leaving a nice sounding warm tone.

Look: Well I think it looks pretty cool personally. There is no pick guard but the strings are high off the pickup so it really isn't needed. The wood is all polished and looks great.

The one thing about this guitar I do not like is the strap placement. The strap placement makes the... Read more
